84.1%of online buyers pay cash on delivery

Delivered, cash handed over

In Morocco, delivering an online order almost always means delivering and collecting the cash: in 2024, 84.1% of online buyers paid in cash on delivery, according to the national telecoms regulator's survey (ANRT). To do it, an online shop has three main options: an e-commerce delivery company, the post and parcel networks, or an independent courier found on a marketplace. This guide explains how each works, what it really costs, how to keep returns down, and the distance-selling rules to know — whether you already run a shop in Morocco or are setting one up.

What that means for you: your carrier doesn't just carry a parcel, it carries your money. And many of your customers order by message. If you are just starting out, our guide to starting e-commerce in Morocco maps the whole path, from your first product to your first delivered order.

02Three ways to deliver an order in Morocco

1. The e-commerce delivery company

It picks up your parcels, delivers them, collects the payment and pays the cash back to you on a set schedule: the next day, weekly or every two weeks depending on the company and the plan. Prices follow a grid by zone: on 21 October 2026, published rates ran from 18 to 25 DH within the same city, 35 to 40 DH to the major cities, and 39 to 50 DH to remote areas. Returns are free with some, charged by others, or free up to a share of your parcels.

2. The post and parcel networks

Amana, the parcel service of Barid Al-Maghrib (Morocco's post), delivers to the door up to 31 kg, announces 24 hours across 80% of the country, and offers cash on delivery. CTM Messagerie relies on 120 pickup and distribution points. Their strength: a national network that reaches small towns.

3. The independent courier, through a marketplace

You post the parcel, independent couriers and delivery companies offer their price, and you choose. The courier collects the cash at the door and hands it back to you in person. It's the most flexible option for an urgent job, a bulky parcel, a trip a courier is already making, or when you want your cash the same day.

03What cash on delivery changes for you

  • Your cash flowyour money stays with the carrier until it's paid back. A weekly schedule means a week of takings tied up.
  • Refusals at the doora customer may not pay, may not answer, or may have changed their mind.
  • The exact amounta customer who discovers fees at the door refuses more often. Give one total, delivery included.
  • The cash itselfnotes to check, change to carry, and old notes withdrawn from circulation since 1 January 2026.

Who carries the cash, how to count it and how to keep a record: our guide to handing collected cash back covers all of it, for couriers and for senders.

04Returns and refusals: the cost you don't see

At the Logismed 2026 trade show, one logistics player estimated that 30 to 40% of deliveries need another attempt. Even if your rate is lower, every refusal costs a round trip, sometimes a return fee, stock tied up and wasted packaging. Out of 100 parcels shipped, 20 refusals can take your cost from 35 to more than 41 DH per delivered parcel.

The levers are well known: confirm every order, give the total price, pin down the address, deliver fast and keep the customer informed. Our guide to reducing cash-on-delivery returns goes through them, with an order confirmation template.

05The distance-selling rules to know

What follows summarises the law; it isn't legal advice.

Law 31-08 on consumer protection

  • your offer must state your identity, the price, delivery costs, payment and delivery terms, and the existence of the right of withdrawal (article 29);
  • the customer must get written confirmation of that information, at the latest on delivery (article 32);
  • they have 7 days from receipt to withdraw, with no reason and no penalty other than any return costs, or 30 days if the written confirmation is missing (article 36);
  • you must refund them within 15 days at the latest (article 37).

Law 09-08 on personal data: your customers' phone numbers and addresses are personal data. Use them for the order, declare your processing to the CNDP (the data-protection authority), and send marketing messages only with prior consent.

Legal status: the auto-entrepreneur (self-employed) scheme covers online selling, which appears on the official list of eligible activities. Our guide to the auto-entrepreneur status sums up the tax and the health contribution.

06Choosing a delivery company in Morocco: ten questions to ask

  1. Are my cities, and my customers' cities, covered?
  2. What delivery time, city by city?
  3. What cost per delivered parcel, returns included?
  4. Are returns and cancellations charged?
  5. When does my cash come back?
  6. What proof of delivery do I get if there's a dispute?
  7. Can I track every parcel?
  8. Are bulky or fragile parcels accepted?
  9. Who do I call when a parcel goes missing?
  10. Is there a cap on the cash collected?

Many shops combine options: a delivery company for volume to the major cities, an independent courier for urgent, bulky and same-city jobs. To see what each company publishes about its prices, cities, cash payback and returns, read our 2026 comparison of delivery companies in Morocco.

07Day to day: a routine that holds

Confirm, pack, group, ship, collect, follow up. If you sell mostly through messages, our guide to organising deliveries for an Instagram or WhatsApp shop walks through that routine step by step, with WhatsApp Business tools. And because scams target shops too, read our guide to parcel scams in Morocco.

Delivery Center

Delivering with Delivery Center

On Delivery Center, a parcel's journey takes five steps:

  1. You post the parcel: pickup, drop-off, size (1.5 kg minimum), cash to collect, and how the courier's fee is paid (at pickup, or from the cash collected).
  2. Offers arrive: independent couriers and delivery companies in your cities offer their price and vehicle (motorbike, car or van).
  3. You pick the offer that suits you, or none.
  4. The courier delivers: your customer gives them the delivery code you sent, which confirms the delivery on the spot.
  5. Your cash comes back hand to hand, you confirm you've received it, and each side rates the other.

There's no rate card and no commission. Two rules to know: cancelling after a courier has accepted, or not being there when they come to collect, counts as a warning, and three warnings in 30 days pause your posting for 7 days. You can also deliver with the same account: our guide to becoming an independent courier explains how.

10Frequently asked questions

What's the best delivery company in Morocco?

There isn't one for everyone. The best one for you covers your cities, has a reasonable cost per delivered parcel once returns are counted, pays your cash back quickly and leaves proof of every delivery. Compare at least two options over a month of real parcels: our delivery company comparison puts what each one publishes side by side.

Is cash on delivery compulsory?

No. You can offer card payment or bank transfer. But 84.1% of online buyers paid on delivery in 2024: refusing it means losing a large share of customers.

Who pays for returns?

When a customer refuses at the door, your agreement with the carrier applies: some don't charge for refusals, others do. When a customer withdraws after receiving the parcel, law 31-08 lets you leave the return cost with them: say so in your terms of sale.

How long does delivery take in Morocco?

Usually 24 hours within the same city, 24 to 72 hours to other cities, and up to 96 hours to remote areas, according to the times the companies publish. An independent courier can deliver the same day.
